Between June 13-26, Romania will host the final tournament UEFA Under-19, becoming only the second country on the continent to be entrusted with this honor for the second time. Our U19 national team automatically qualified for the final tournament.

As a preview of this major continental football event that will bring Europe’s most promising talents to Romania, let’s go through a subjective list of today’s international stars who participated in the UEFA European Under-19 Championships in 2017, 2018, and 2019. This will give us a glimpse of what we might expect this summer at the tournament we are hosting!

Today’s Stars, 2017’s Young Talents

At the 2017 edition, hosted by Georgia, players such as Swedish forward Viktor Gyökeres—now excelling at Sporting Lisbon—his compatriot Karlsson (Bologna), and Czech midfielder Alex Král (Espanyol) took the field.

Portugal was represented by Diogo Dalot (Man United) and Rafael Leão (Milan), while England featured Reece James (Chelsea) and Mason Mount (Man United). Teun Koopmeiners (Juventus) played for the Netherlands.

Breakout Performers from the 2018 Edition

At the 2018 UEFA U19 EURO, held in Finland, Portugal’s squad included goalkeeper Diogo Costa (Porto) and forward Trincão (Sporting Lisbon). Norway’s squad featured the brilliant Erling Haaland, while Italy’s current stars—Nicolò Zaniolo, Sandro Tonali, Raoul Bellanova, Gianluca Scamacca, and Moise Kean—also made their mark.

The tournament also featured future top-level talents such as French duo Moussa Diaby and Amine Gouiri, Ukraine’s Vitaliy Mykolenko, and England’s Conor Gallagher.

From Raspadori to Ferran Torres

The 2019 UEFA U19 EURO, hosted by Armenia, saw players like Giacomo Raspadori (Italy), Vitinha and Gonçalo Ramos (Portugal), and Pierre Kalulu (France) in action.

Spain’s squad was filled with talents who later confirmed their potential at the highest level, including Eric García, Juan Miranda, Ferran Torres, Abel Ruiz, and Bryan Gil.
